The Food Security Bill that is being discussed in the Parliament ,the debate was initiated by Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi , who said, "It's not food security, but vote securing Bill," as he slammed the government for delay in its implementation and accused it of timing it in such a way at the fag end of their tenure so that they would benefit it in general elections now months away, but postpone the huge subsidy burden of more than Rs.1.25 lakh crore for the next Government.
He asked, "What were you (UPA) doing for four years? When you came to power, you were supposed to bring the bill. Now when you are bringing the bill, you are about to go out of power,".
He seriously joked to the plight of those who will be lot from the coverage of the bill,"What will those not covered by the Bill eat? Spectrum and coal?" That was intended to shame the Congress's big scandals of 2G and Coalgate.
