Should Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh attend a Commonwealth summit in Colombo this month ? It has become a critical debating point within the Congress ?both the Prime Minister's office and the Ministry of External Affairs have advised the PM to go, so also the newly elected Jaffna's Tamil chief minister, Justice C V Wigneswaran is insisting that Indian PM. should come to Colombo to attend the meet.
He categorically said,"As the first chief minister of the northern province it is my duty to thank you and your esteemed country for persuading the Sri Lankan government to hold the northern provincial council elections. May I also take this opportunity to cordially invite your excellency to visit Jaffna whenever it is convenient for you," .
Most of Tamil Nadu political parties are against the Prime Minister's visit to Sri Lanka. M Karunanidhi, the chief of the DMK warned today that if Dr Manmohan Singh attends the conclave, "his party has to face the consequences."
Another Congress Minister G K Vasan from Tamilnadu also urged the prime minister to miss the Colombo session. He advised the PM. to respect the sentiment of Tamil people regarding the CHOGM meet. The PM told me that he will weigh all options and take a right decision at a right time and announce."
It's a tightrope situation for Congress as one side it cannot risk Tamil votes in the next election, while the harsh geopolitics warns : India is going to loss its last friendly neighbour to close enemy China.
China has been increasing assertion in the Sri Lankan Island. That will be the last nail in the coffin for India, as China had in last several years encircled India, both on land and sea.
Though India is neglecting its prime national interest for vote bank politics, by refusing a nearest and closest friend, having the strongest bondage of thousands years of human, trade and cultural ties. But China is making fast strategic inroads in Sri Lankan, by investing heavily in Sri Lanka.
INDIA HONEST is assured this will be one of the biggest loss of India's foreign relations management under the Congress rule, after we lost many friendly neighbours one by one,in last so many years, like Bangladesh, Nepal, Mynamar and surprisingly Bhutan also. But will the vote bank greedy Congress take the local Tamil party's opposition lightly, especially in election season?
