In an ambitious Clean India mission PM Narendra Modi has promised to the nation : "I will myself use the broom on Gandhi Jayanthi ".
Launching a "Clean India" campaign to be started on Gandhiji birthday on October 2, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that he will himself go out using the broom and asked people to give their two hours every week to him in "alms" to make the drive a success. He said, "I myself am going out to use the broom. People often wonder why I keep harping on these small things. It is because I am a small man. These small people with their small works can take the country to supreme heights.
P.M. Modi added, "I am seeking alms from countrymen. In alms, I seek your 100 hours in a year. We will together launch cleanliness drive. You give your two hours in a week... As you clean up your house for a guest, prosperity will enter our country if we remove all dirt,".
The Centre will spend nearly Rs 2 lakh crore in five-year time as part of its ambitious plan to completely clean India by October 2019, coinciding with the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.Naidu said, "We have a plan to approach icons from various fields. Because the prime minister desires that this should become a people's movement , and added, "We have requested Ramakrishna Mission, Patanjali Yoga Peeth of Baba Ram Dev, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, Gayatri Parivar, and we have also contacted various maths including Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth, Siddha Ganga Math in Karnataka," .
Naidu further added that the government will also approach Muslim and Christian religious organisation including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and Bishops' Council of India and seek their cooperation in making India open defecation free in five years.
