In an all out efforts by the Modi government a comprehensive package for Bihar with an IIM for Bihar, making Patna University a central varsity, upgrading airports in Patna and Bodh Gaya, and major road projects are among the new projects the Modi government could launch.
Nripendra Misra, the principal secretary to the PM, as well as senior or junior ministers for oil, railways, civil aviation, roads, telecom and human resource development, among others, have attended meetings on formulating a Bihar package.A comprehensive financial package is being planned and that each ministry has been asked to come up with cost estimates and project time lines.
Finance Minister Arun Jaitley is leading an effort involving 18 other Union ministers to put together a Bihar development strategy. At a recent meeting called by the department of expenditure, finance ministry, participants were urged to draft development strategies for Bihar. Officials said the cost of these new projects will not be constrained by budgetary allocation to ministries.
India Honest is glad that the Finance minister, who had indicated only last month that the Centre is working on ways to assist Bihar, has now confirmed that the central government would support Bihar in a big way in view of the "need for equitable development in the country". He had pointed to the lack of industry, better roads, airports, tourism infrastructure and proper support for Bihar's universities.
India Honest feels, it is the start of "Acche Din" for Bihari people, who had suffered the Lalu led jungle raj and Nitish led communal and caste dividing politics for a big time,and now needs good political governance to raise progress of Bihar to reach a status of equitable development as now seen in the other states of the country.
