Meenakshi dared to stand up to her stalker and paid with her life for it. Meenakshi, 19, was knifed to death on Thursday night in front of terrified witnesses at a crowded market in the heart of the capital, by the man she had sent behind bars for stalking her.
Meenakshi was with her neighbour, returning home with groceries from a market at Punjabi Basti colony in Anand Parbat, when the accused, Jai Prakash, 22, blocked her way and passed a lewd remark. Witnesses said Meenakshi protested instantly. Her police complaint in 2013 had led to Prakash and his mother Shashi Bala being taken into preventive custody. Prakash's family had since been pressuring her to withdraw the complaint.
A witness said Meeankshi called for help as she was being attacked. She somehow broke free and started running towards her home in the slum clusters of Anand Parbat with the two youths in pursuit. She managed to enter a neighbour's house but tripped.
Jai Prakash and his brother dragged her out by her hair and allegedly stabbed her a few more times. Meenakshi's mother Usha Rani, who heard the commotion and rushed out, told TOI, "She was lying in a pool of blood and the two brothers were stabbing her. When I tried to push them away, Jai Prakash stabbed me on my shoulder and slit my wrist." Neighbours claim they tried to intervene but the youths swung their knives and threatened them before fleeing towards the main road.

During his interaction with the grieving family, the chief minister told them the AAP government was “helpless” as it did not have any control over the Delhi police.
“Hum kya karein, hum toh majboor hain. Aap toh jaante hai Delhi police hamare control mein nahi hai (What can we do, we are helpless. You know that the Delhi Police is not under our control),” Kejriwal said.
Meenakshi’s father Raj Kumar and mother Usha demanded the arrest of Shashi Bala, the mother of the arrested accused, Sunny and Illu. Unable to hold back her tears, Usha told the CM, “These people mercilessly killed my daughter. If the police had acted on time, she would have been saved.”
While addressing mediapersons later, Kejriwal said the AAP government could not be held accountable, as the Delhi police is not answerable to it. “At least the local police stations should be under our control,” he said. Kejriwal also said that the government has sought a detailed report on the case from Delhi Police Commissioner B S Bassi within the next 48 hours.

Kejriwal has huge feeling of revenge for Delhi police for their actions against AAP MLAs and he called the Delhi cops 'thulla'. Police chief Bassi 'can't believe it' that how the Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal can use the word 'thulla' to describe Delhi policemen.'Thulla' is a derogatory slang is used in Delhi to refer to policemen.
BJP leaders said, "We regret the incidence of murder of a 19 year old girl yesterday. Our sympathy is with her family. May god give her family the strength during this time of grief.We also regret the way Arvind Kejriwal is politicizing this. He has gone down so low to use people’s emotions for his political benefits".
They added further,"When Sheila Dixit was Delhi CM, he used to criticize her and say that it is Delhi CM’s responsibility to give a safer environment to Delhi people now when he himself is the CM, he blames PM Narendra Modi for everything. Can he stop blaming others and take responsibilities like a sincere and a responsible person"?
We will not go down to his level and start a debate on this, right now we all should come forward and support this family while CM Arvind Kejriwal’s focus is to come in Media, blame PM Narendra Modi and get publicity.
