The fire broke out at Puttingal Temple in the town of Paravur early on Sunday while the building has been completely destroyed. It has been reported that one of the firecrackers sparked a cache of banned pyrotechnics kept in the store house , which caused a massive explosion .
At least 102 people have died and more than 200 were injured after celebratory firecrackers reportedly caused a massive blast and fire . The high number of casualties was due to the collapse of the temple building, the Indian Express reports.
“A lot of people were hit by debris from the building,” an eyewitness told Manorama News.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy says his cabinet will decide to clamp down on illegal firework display. Collectors order rejecting the application of the temple to hold a fireworks display on April 9 as "it has become clear that it is not a firework display but a fireworks competition that will be held", and adding that action will be taken against those who break the order. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala visits the disaster site in Kollam, says investigation is on. Raids conducted in the house of contractor Surendran, who supplied fireworks.

Sanjay Dwivedy : शुक्र मनाइये कि हमें ऐसा pm मिला है जो मन्दिर में आग लगने पर तुरन्त एक्शन में आकर अपने साथ बर्न स्पेशलिस्ट की टीम भी ले जाता है !वरना हमने तो ऐसे pm भी देखे है जो उत्तराखण्ड के लिये बाढ़ राहत सामग्री भी तब भेजते है जब मैडम जी आकर 14 दिन बाद हरी झण्डी दिखा कर ट्रकों को रवाना किये थी !और जब ट्रक खुलता था तो उसमे सड़े अनाज और सड़ा हुआ कपड़ा और पप्पू का फोटो मिलता था।याद कीजिये कॉंग्रेस ऐसा अनाज भेजती थी जो सुवर भी नहीं खा सकते थे।
