Tejpal accepted that he had written the mails only because managing editor Shoma Chaudhury had insisted him to issues an apology as demanded by the victim, to close a ‘contentious’ issue. He added that he has a completely different version of the events which will be revealed in course of the probe. Tejpal argued that he only apologised “out of an attempt to preserve the girl’s dignity and on “Shoma’s adamantly feminist-principle insistence” that he keep correct form by apologising“, .
Shoma Chaudhury has the fame of as journalist, who asked tough questions with a righteously outraged “tonality”. But as a Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury hit out in utmost frustration," Don’t call Tejpal a rapist", arguing that the basic reporting guidelines dictated that the word ‘alleged’ should be used in describing the incident. Referring to BJP leader Arun Jaitley, she said that as an eminent lawyer and former law minister, he should have known better than to take such a strong position in calling the incident rape. She added that since the case was no longer an institutional affair and was in the public domain, Tejpal had a right to provide his version of the story.
Why Shoma preferred to limitise her role, more to save her skin, failing in her attempt to play double standard ? The accusing journalism, she professed in her tenure in Tehelka was ripped open, when Chaudhury accusingly repented that it was sad that she was being seen as acting against the victim, when she was actually very proud that she had spoken out.She said “That said however, in a public discourse my loyalty is to the truth, and my allegiance is to both sides”, . She added however that if the girl’s statement was proven to be correct, she would call the incident rape or an attempt to rape.
How ridiculous it is to find, the same Shoma in different moods and contrasting acts ? In one Tehelka article on outrage against rape and the violations of women’s rights , she said, “There are, therefore, three reckonings this horrific rape forces upon us now. How can India change its endemically diseased mindset about women? How can strong deterrence be built against rape? And how can contact with the police and justice process not be made to feel like a double rape?”
The status was ditto in Tejpal's assault on the co journalist, that made Shoma changing gear, asking a peanut from Tejpal as punishment, an emotional apology and "an vacation for six months" from attending office, rather rejoicing the sweet and sour memories of past with the daughter equivalent victim. Oh God, when he will reward for the niceties and fast delivery of justice, the famed journalist and adamant managing editer Shoma Chaudhury gave through her remarkable verdict .
