It may be a drama in the words of TMC leaders, that has unfolded today, when a middle-aged man, his wife and four children commenced an impromptu sit-in protest before Chief Justice Arun Kumar Mishra’s courtroom. The family alleged that they were forcefully evicted from their home in East Midnapore by Trinamool Congress over three years ago and have since been homeless. The chief justice’s office later referred the case to the State Human Rights Commission.
Justice Arun Kumar Mishra and Justice Joymalya Bagchi were hearing cases in the court room located on the first floor of the heritage building’s western flank, when Sujan Bandyopadhyay, along with wife Konica and four children, including an infant, walked down the corridor, enquired where the chief justice’s courtroom was situated and then squatted before it, taking policemen as well as court officials unawares.
As reported in media, Sujan said he had been falsely implicated in a murder of a Trinamool Congress worker in 2010 and then hounded out of his home in East Midnapore’s Dariberia village. He recounted, “Since I was a CPM activist, we were driven out of the village. The house was converted into a Trinamool Congress party office and my shop was demolished,”.
Though he filed a complaint at Sutahata police station on 20 August 2010, the police did not take any steps. Instead, police allegedly registered a murder case against him and declared him absconding.
Sujan complained,“With nowhere to go, we have been spending the nights on railway platforms and pavements. On July 12, 2013, I even went to Writers’ Buildings to meet chief minister Mamata Banerjee and plead my case but I was turned away by the security there,”.
According to housewife Konica, the family had come to the court as a last resort after failing to get help from any quarter. Not only had the family been turned away by the human rights commission, she said the legal aid commission had also refused help since Sujan could not produce an income certificate.
INDIA HONEST regrets the high handedness of party workers, who are still after passing three years, more adamant on to take revenge on political lines. Honest national leaders of any party must consider all the people of state as their own men, once they are elected to rule the state. Ma-mati-manus proposition should to be equal for all and this thought and vision, the leadership must grasp fast.
