The Naveen Jindal group was allotted a total of 11 blocks, making it the single largest beneficiary of the controversial coal block allotment by the UPA government.The names of five firms including Jindal Steel & Power Ltd, Jindal Realty Pvt Ltd were also mentioned in the charge sheet.
A special court on Thursday pulled up the Central Bureau of Investigation for not seizing industrialist Naveen Jindal's passport and asked the agency to have a clear policy in place. Jindal has been charge sheeted in a coal block allocation scam case.The remarks came after the agency revealed that it had seized the passports of only two accused which did not include Jindal.
The CBI in its defence told the court that it was decided that passport of Jindal would not be seized during the probe.The court slammed the CBI saying it cannot adopt a different policy for different sets of accused in seizing passport. The court also directed the CBI Director to ensure that a uniform policy is laid down to be followed on such issues.
The CBI had on Wednesday filed a charge sheet against Jindal,former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda and former Union MoS Dasari Narayan Rao's, former coal secretary H C Gupta in a coal block allocation scam in Jharkhand. The court has fixed May 6 to consider CBI charge sheet against Jindal and 14 others in the case. Jindal had approached the passport office saying that his passport must not be seized.
