Will Aap's Rigorous System of Candidate Appraisal Give a Desired Result ?

If this process of candidate appraisal adopted by the Aap party is suitable and effective for Indian politics ? This is a question many curious observers will raise, but an answer to this tricky question is hard to get.

Anna's India Against Corruption fame Arvind Kejriwal has raised the Aam Aadmi Party on the plank of a fight against corruption. With this idea in mind, AAP has been trying to pick its candidates carefully, but this is raising more questions  then finding any reasonable result.

Surendra Sharma, a candidate from Shahdara constituency in Delhi, claims that "not only had he disclosed the numerous FIRs registered against him but also went through the rigorous selection process which included an interview with Sisodia, investigations into his background, voting by active volunteers, a meeting with Kejriwal and endorsement by the Political Affairs Committee".

Sharma has been now denied the ticket and he is challenging the candidate selection process. AAP leader Manish Sidodia, member of screening committee denied Sharma charged saying: "Sharma had not disclosed many details."

A complaint is also registered against another AAP candidate Deshraj Raghav from Uttam Nagar. A complaint in the Lokayukta by the BJP's Anchal Sharma alleges Raghav and his family own many ration shops in the area. Achal Sharma asks, "How can one family have so many ration shops?"

While admitting that there are four ration shops in the names of his two brothers, wife and widowed sister, Raghav says that no FIR has been lodged against anyone. He said, "There is no FIR in my name, my father's name or my grandfather's name,".

The AAP experiment has indeed raised expectations, but it has also exposed the difficulties in finding candidates who fit the standards of the party. AAP leader Yogendra said, "We can improve," admitting that their this unique experiment of choosing candidates is not water tight.

INDIA HONEST surprises is this rigorous system of apprising a candidate will give a desired result, when the crime reporting system and their legal adjudication process through courts is so lengthy and unrealistic ? An Aap attempt in noble direction in Indian politics may not give time bound good result, so it needs long time bigger reforms.
