An US national Gastler, a football lover and the mentor , founded Yuwa four years back at a village in Oremajhi block of Ranchi district of Jharkhand, to train young kids, particularly girls, in football. Working in partnership with Krishi Gram Vikas Kendra of Usha Martin group of industries , with more than 200 girls and 55 boys under Gastler's guardianship Yuwa was formed and this Yuwa went to Spain to play in the under-14 all-women Gasteiz Cup, a renowned testing ground for teenage football in Victoria Gasteiz, Europe's 'Green Capital.
Yuwa team returned back home after winning the bronze medal this July. Yuwa's caption Neeta narrated the story proudly, "We were treated like princes everywhere we went after winning the third place,".
But this joy has a contrasting side with the horrifying treatment the poor tribal girls had to face while trying to get their birth certificates from the gram panchayat office as the girls were asked to give bribes to get their birth certificates made at the panchayat office located just outside the state capital Ranchi. They were even slapped and made to sweep floors by a panchayat sewak when they requested him to hasten up the process as they desperately needed the certificates.
One is ashamed at the insensitivity of our system as well the ignorance of the Sports Authorities including All India Football Association, who are the trustees responsible for sports promotion in India about this private but prestigious achievement.
