To save the skin of some prominent Congress persons from the Coalgate scam, and with regular rebuke from the monitoring Supreme Court , the CBI has gone crazy to mad ,instead of pinpointing the high up culprits, they have fallen for revenge and creating impossible implications of persons, just to delay the process and hide the real wrong doers.
The 1969-batch IAS officer of Andhra Pradesh cadre, Prakash Chandra Parekh, who was appointed Union coal secretary in March 2004 and remained in that post till he retired in December 2005, whom the CAG had stated that he was the person who wanted transparency in the system and known to most others, as the whistle blower.
Kumar Mangalam Birla is widely considered a conservative businessman who plays by the rule book as for instance, even in the 2G scam, Idea Cellular, an Aditya Birla Group firm, was the only telco has not to come under the scanner.
HDFC chairman Deepak Parekh angered, "It is ludicrous that an FIR has been filed against Kumar Mangalam. He is straight as an arrow. Our system is such that biggest fraudsters go scoot-free. I can give a many examples to prove this point. The innocent people are the ones who are harassed," .
From Ratan Tata, Anil Ambani to Sunil Mittal and now to Kumar Mangalam Birla, who was also on the board of regulators of institutions such as RBI and Sebi, the CBI was now acting without any "checks or balances".
Three ministers of the UPA government, speaking on condition of anonymity, expressed shock at the development. Another Cabinet minister said CBI was now acting without any "checks or balances". "CBI or such bureaucracy will pose problems for any government, whether this one or the next, as they are now operating without any checks or balances," the minister said.
TV Mohandas Pai, former Infosys board member, said, "It is not right to go after everyone who has been allocated coal blocks unless CBI has strong direct evidence. In a system where justice takes a long time to come, their reputation is tainted till such time they can prove themselves innocent. There are serious players who need coal for captive consumption and then there are "cronies" where there are charges of nepotism and bribery,".
A senior Cabinet minister belonging to a UPA ally said naming an industrialist and not the company alone may create a problem globally as these entrepreneurs are now managing global assets. "People should take care before naming an individual, as it has to do with the reputation and personal integrity of the person even internationally," .
INDIA HONEST warns the CBI has gone mad to prove something while hiding many things under compulsion, it will be the biggest harm to confidence and credibility of Indian industrialist/investors on international forum, which will be beyond repair for years.
