Chidambaram refusal to contest election is a blunt admission of his role in economic debacle of India

Chidambaram refusal to contest election is  blunt admission of his role in economic debacle of India

BJP leader and former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha war of words over P Chidambaram has cited the dismal state of the economy as the reason for not contesting this year's general election by Chidambaram.

Yashwant Sinha was justified in blaming,"Not contesting polls is Chidambaram's no-trust against himself". But the bigger embarrassment lies with P Chidambaram due to his inability in offering a satisfactory reply to latest salvo list of 18 questions posted to him by Yashwant Sinha.

Mr Chidambaram had derided as "puerile" , this list of 18 questions posted to him by the BJP leader and described him as a "distant memory', and tried in vain to defend his decision not to contest this year's election by saying, "I have categorically denied I am retiring from politics. I am not contesting elections because I want to do other things in life." ( INDIA HONEST regrets , why this thought did not stuck Cidambarm four years back.)

The Finance Minister took umbrage at Mr Sinha calling him a "spoiler" for the economy and had unleashed an "economic fact sheet" to defend his government's economic policies and switching fast gear to changing the topic by launching a fierce attack on the BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

Chidambaram said,"Modi has deep character flaws",one most repeated gimmick used by his party by alleging that the BJP candidate is a divisive leader who fuels communal tension. This of course is a nasty tactics by a finance minster to avoid answering economic debacle of UPA2.

Chidambaram lost his wit merged with his cool on Modi, who as a Chief Minister of Gujarat, is often credited with overseeing twelve years of Gujarat's fastest growth, when he said, "His brand of capitalism is crony capitalism," .

INDIA HONEST hoped , it would have been better if the Harvard-trained finance minister Chidambaram along with Congress' economist Prime Minister, had sensed the consequence of the economic malaise at least four years earlier and opted to resign then, India would have been saved from this worst economic peril , not seen in last three decades.

In the Modi vs Rahul Clamour, the Real Issues Are Missed .

Aakar Patel, a writer, columnist and former newspaper editor, having worked with the Bhaskar Group and Mid Day Multimedia Ltd has logged his views on Rahul vs Modi -- pointing that in the Modi vs Rahul clamour, real issues are missed.

AP said, "The discerning Indian voter will suffer in this coming election, because his issues will not be debated. In any case they will not be debated vigorously. If one is interested in knowing why the economy has turned flaccid and what will be done to make it roar again, what our relations in the next five years with America, China and Pakistan will be, and how bits of essential legislation will be passed by the next parliament, one will not have answers from election campaigns. The Congress party, which has had a bad couple of years, is moving the debate away from policies and performance. Its leaders at the moment appear more interested in speaking about the consequences of having Narendra Modi in Delhi, rather than revisiting their decade in power".

The thinker writer concluded : that one has to accept that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and BJP PM nominee Narendra Modi are the two formidable candidate for comparison. He said, "This is understandable because the Manmohan Singh government has more or less given up on its term and is coasting towards May 2014. The serial disasters that have visited it through serious allegations of corruption and incompetence had already deflated it by the start of 2012. One must expect little from them in the next six months. Though Sonia Gandhi may be well-meaning, she does not have it in her, given her lack of education, to offer direction .  Manmohan Singh has by the looks of it given up and is waiting to leave office and retire".

INDIA HONEST agrees and questions, : Why most of the leaders should be considered to lead India, who are talking only about the demerits of a present CM of a state Modi, without talking about their own performance...............if they are so afraid of one individual opponent leader Modi, that day and night they are talking about him only, so when they will explain : what their thought, plans or actions on national problems, people's problem , or safety of our borders...........if they are selected lead the nation ? Logically it shows that they don't have any thing to show on their performance report card and that is why opts to target others for their acts.

"The Congress will likely play a negative game and hope that the Muslims will flock to them in fear of Modi. The only Congress leader who approaches issues through the fundamentals is Rahul Gandhi. But he is for some reason seen as flaky and laughable and so most ignore him. On the other side, in my opinion, Narendra Modi does n’t have the intellectual capacity to engage with policy at a high level and certainly not at the level of legislation. This is understandable given his education and exposure. He is better off doing what he does, which is offer broad criticism of Singh’s government. Modi’s great skill, and this must be acknowledged, is demagoguery. He is entertaining and forceful, but nothing more than that. It is true also that it is this sort of thing that voters are looking for".

INDIA HONEST agrees with the thought process as regards to the status of PM Manmohan Singh, and their only hope to win the next election on the basis of Muslim voters polarisation, but IH suggests a different view on the prospectus of the other two expected candidates.

While Rahul Gandhi lacks expertise of practical experience on so many vital issues, though he may have good intentions, but the wishes are not sufficient to manage India,as even with the backing of mother Sonia Gandhi and her coterie, was not good enough for him to streamline the internal organisation of Congress party. The dream of managing the India government successfully is  different ball game, still he is not ready for that at this stage, a supporting role will be more suitable and work better for the Congress.

An expertise in political matters, if clubbed with good education is a boon no doubt, but the management qualities and taste and sense of people's needs and mood, ensures all round support and cooperation needed for the successful running of government with good result; Modi in Gujarat and Lalu Prasad in Railways Ministry in the past are the best examples.
