Indian Nationals and Indian Interest in Afghanistan are Targeted by Pakistan

Indian nationals and Indian interest are regularly targeted by Pakistan sponsored terror networks.

Indian author Sushmita Banerjee was shot dead by unknown gunmen on September 5 at a remote place in Afghanistan's Paktika province. A new group called Suicide Group of the Islamic Movement of Afghanistan had claimed responsibility for the killing alleging that Banerjee was an Indian spy. This group was also reportedly involved in the recent attack against the Indian Consulate in Jalalabad.

But Indian government relied on the friendly Afghanistan Government for the detail probe in the murder, and the authorities in Kabul now confirmed that Pakistan Taliban was responsible for the killing of Indian author Sushmita Banerjee. The Reports from Kabul further said that the plan to kill Banerjee was hatched in Pakistan and that the three militants arrested worked with Akbar Musafir — the Afghan Taliban commander in Paktika province.

India's foreign affairs spokesman Syed Akbaruddin said, "The governor of Paktika province has indicated to our ambassador that those who are involved in this, based on arrests made, seemed to be what he described as Pakistan Taliban... The indication is they were from areas beyond Afghanistan's borders. This is extremely distressing for us,".

These are bad signs for India's Foreign relations policy, specially in context to the Taliban's growing dominance in the war torn Afghanistan, where the Nato led forces are expected to leave the country in 2014 and the present friendly government of Afghanistan is restricted from safe guarding Indian interest by Pakistan supported terrorist groups and Taliban, who are trying hard to wipe out Indian influence from Afghanistan.

India, though has aspired to become a regional super power since last one decade, but the internal weakness of struggling UPA 2 government has forced it to sacrifice its best strategic  interests to enemies in its neighbourhood, time and again. In the fast changing world scenario a one time strategic setback never allows a come back.
