Jairam Ramesh Tits : Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh said in Ahmedabad that NGOs have become a 'racket' and 'mafia' in the country and that as a conscious 'strategy' the Central Government has been decreased their participation.
India Honest Bits : Yes in India two different groups of "racket' and 'mafia' cannot be allowed, it can be only coal mines grabbing racket of Jayswals or Dardas or sand looting mafias of Noida leaders, how central government may promote another type of NGO mafias, unless they maintain cordial connection with high ups at Delhi ?
Jairam Ramesh Tits : Ramesh said, It is true that in last few years, the role of NGOs in the rural development programmes has decreased. There are many reasons for it," . Ramesh warned the NGOs to stop romanticising Maoists, they are terrorists .
India Honest Bits : As so much progress has been made by this Congress government in last one decade that there is no role left for these rural based NGOs. There are other reasons that sitting at Delhi the Minister cannot handle them as they cannot share anything. So most of the rural development work is done in the books and records of this ministry at Delhi. More important these NGOs works along with the Maoists, in tribal areas, and that the central government wants to do directly with the use of security forces.
Jairam Ramesh Tits : Ramesh said,"One reason is that our experience with NGOs, in some states, has not been good," and he added, "In different states, we have seen that NGOs have become a racket. And this racket has formed because politicians and NGOs have developed a close association,". He said while that most of the NGOs which have come into existence are either in the name of one or the other politician's wife, son, daughter or some relative. "It has become a mafia," he added.
India Honest Bits : Jairam had serious reservations on this type of such NGO mafias, those have no partnership with Shree Prakash, Vijay Dardas, Rajas, Marans, Kalindis or even Bansals. These NGO racket have failed to develop close association with the politician's relatives like Vadras or Reddys. as most of these NGOs working in rural areas are not familiar with UPA traditions.
