Within first five minutes of the report of one biggest quakes that hit Nepal at 7.9 magnitude, Narendra Modi had his seat belt on At around 11.56 am as reports of collapsed buildings and loss of human life in Kathmandu started pouring in at the Prime Minister’s Office.Even before the Chief Ministers of Bihar and UP could summon a meeting for assessment of the situation, call for providing help by the Prime Minister reached them. Perhaps the experience of the great Gujarat earthquake played its part on Saturday at the highest executive office of the country.
Here we go with प्रधान सेवक Narendra Damodardas Modi KI KAHANI NAZIM NAQVI KI JUBANI : Modi’s top ten decision taken on the earthquake relief and rescue operation within the first four hours of the shocking incident which triggered hundred of deaths across the Himalayan Kingdom.
1. As the news of the shocking disaster was first communicated to Modi by his personal staff, he called on his Principal secretary Nripendra Mihsra to assess the magnitude of the situation.National Security Adviser Ajit Doval soon joined the PM.
2. Within next ten minutes a situation report from the Director IB was tabled before Modi. A sketchy details of damage in border districts of Nepal in UP and Bihar were included in report.
3. At 12.30 after a brief meeting with his officers in PMO, Modi released the first official information saying that “PMO is working and reaching out to those effecting by the earthquake, within the country and Nepal.”
4. At 12:40 PM Modi made first call to Pawan Chamling CM of Sikkim and assured him that air force would provide immediate relief to the affected areas of the state.
5. At 12.55 Modi spoke to Nitish Kumar the CM of Bihar and later to Akhilesh Yadav the CM of UP to take the information about the earthquake situation.
6. After talking to the Chief Ministers, Modi made a lightning call to the President of Nepal Ram Baran Yadav, he wanted to speak with Prime Minister of Nepal but informed that he is on the tour to Indonesia.
7. As the clock struck 1.15, the PMO, on instructions of Modi got in touch with Indian embassy in Bhutan and enquired about the situation. PM’s message was also communicated to the royal family in Thimpu.
8. At around 2 PM, after taking information from all quake hit states and from its epicentre in Nepal, Modi asked his Principal Secretary to convene an urgent meeting of high officials at 3 PM. Modi was already on hot line with his Home Minister Rajnath Singh. The PM in consultation with the Defence Minister had decided to fly two military planes equipped with relief and rescue teams to Kathmandu.
9. After the meeting of 3 o clock Modi convened another back to back meeting with high officials to strategies execution of relief and rescue operations. Subsequently Modi chaired another high level meeting which was attended by Finance Minister Arun Jaitly, Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Adviser Ajit Doval and his Principal Secretary Nripendra Mihsra.
10. After speaking to CMs he gave instructions to Principal Secretary to be in constant touch with the Chief secretaries of quake hit states. Later Defence Minister was also instructed to ensure that when the air force planes return from Kathmandu, they should bring back Indian stranded in Nepal. Meanwhile he spoke to Sushil Koirala and assured all the possible help from New Delhi.
Modi finally ask his secretary to instruct NDMA chief and brief the media about the entire relief operations around 5 PM.
