Prime Minister-elect Narendra Modi has invited the heads of the governments of all South Asian states to attend his swearing-in on Monday. A bold and visionary gesture by Modi that prompted most diplomats and experts to welcome a grand relation building step done without precedent.
It is a fact that foreign envoys stationed in New Delhi have attended past swearing-in, but never world leaders have been invited to attend what has traditionally been seen as a domestic event.
Foreign Secretary Sujatha Singh, the Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that formal invitations has been sent to the Presidents or Prime Ministers of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Hamid Karzai, Afghanistan’s President and Srilanka President accepted the invitation and more confirmation are expected.
Modi’s surprise outreach was basically intended to allay regional fears that his rise to power would herald a new hawkishness in Indian foreign policy.Though Modi had warned on some facts about Bangladesh migrants during election campaign , while Sri Lanka had been concerned over the influence ethnic nationalists in Tamil Nadu might have over his foreign policy, but this great move will work on to clear some apprehension by this positive first step.
INDIA HONEST is highly optimistic of the first few moves by Narendra Modi, even in the short course of him only as a PM. designate, it raises the hope chart many notches up as to confirm "Achhe din aane wale he " (Good days are coming ).
People of India and also people from the world over are eagerly awaiting more important steps from Modi in coming days for the people, economy and our national security and international relations .
